How extraction works

The image is scaled down to a 100-pixel longest edge, then every pixel is read and bucketed at 16 levels per channel, giving candidate colors with their frequencies.

Candidates are then greedily picked by frequency: one enters the result only if it sits far enough from every already-picked color (quantized distance of 48 or more), capped at 8 swatches so you do not get eight near-identical colors. If the image itself uses few colors, the threshold relaxes step by step so at least four swatches come out.

The first swatch is the color that covers the most of the image. Every swatch copies on click, or can be carried into the contrast checker to see whether white or black text stays readable on it.
